McDonald’s Caramel Sundae – Vegan Dupe

McDonald’s Caramel Sundae – Vegan Dupe

Third in my series of McDonald’s sundaes series is the caramel version. When it comes to creating a vegan caramel sauce, look no further than dates. Their gooey texture and sweetness mean you can make a raw caramel sauce without the need of animal products or added fats.

INGREDIENTS

500g/17oz frozen bananas
1-2 tsp vanilla extract
75g/2.5oz medjool dates, pitted
2 Tbsp coconut sugar
6 Drops of toffee liquid stevia (I used SweetLeaf)
water

DIRECTIONS

Soak the dates for 15 minutes prior to making this recipe

Add the frozen bananas and vanilla to your blender or food processor, pulsing the blades until the bananas breakdown and end up smooth like ice cream
If you don’t own a high-speed blender, like a Froothie, you may need to add some water or non-dairy milk to keep your blender’s blades moving
Transfer the vanilla ice cream to a bowl and clean out your blender
Add the soaked dates, coconut sugar, liquid stevia and a little water to your blender and blend on high until you’re left with a smooth caramel sauce
Scoop your ice cream into a bowl and top with the caramel sauce

McDonald’s Strawberry Sundae – Vegan Dupe

You need not feel like you’re missing out on a vegan lifestyle when you can recreate some of your favourite junk/fast foods to be healthy and vegan.

What I remember most about the McDonald’s strawberry sundaes is how intensely sweetthe strawberry topping was. Although, I doubt there was much real fruit in it, unlike this version. By using dates I’ve kept the topping sweet, but not so sickly, however you can add more dates if you so please.

Making sundaes like this is such a great way to mask the flavour of the bananas. Adding vanilla to the ice cream base and then drizzling it with this super-sweet topping will convert any non-banana lover – me included.

INGREDIENTS

500g/17oz frozen bananas
1-2 tsp vanilla extract
75g/2.5oz medjool dates, pitted
150g/5oz strawberries, thaw if frozen
water

McDonald’s Chocolate Sundae – Vegan Dupe

The objective of this website is to recreate vegan and non-vegan foods, making them healthier, more affordable and cruelty-free.

I wanted to kick things off with something which most of you have probably eaten at least once in your lifetime: a McDonald’s chocolate sundae.

The difference with this vegan dupe is the use of frozen bananas to create the soft-serve ice cream. Not only is it dairy-free, but it’s virtually fat-free and something which you can enjoy daily – not just on a special occasion. The high-carb, low-fat vegan lifestyle is a deliciously magnificent thing.

INGREDIENTS

500g/17oz frozen bananas
1-2 tsp vanilla extract
75g/2.5oz medjool dates, pitted
2-3 tsp cocoa powder (carob or cacao, if you prefer)
water

DIRECTIONS

Add the frozen bananas and vanilla to your blender or food processor, pulsing the blades until the bananas breakdown and end up smooth like ice cream
If you don’t own a high-speed blender, like a Froothie, you may need to add some water or non-dairy milk to keep your blender’s blades moving
Transfer the ice cream to a bowl and clean out your blender
Add in the remaining ingredients, along with a little water, blending at a high speed to create a smooth chocolate sauce
Like a McDonald’s sundae, pour some of the chocolate sauce into the bottom of your glass, scoop in the vanilla banana ice cream and top with more of the chocolate sauce
